Let me introduce myself
Effective reading skills are the foundation of life-long learning! |
I
am a mom of four grown children and presently a grandmother of four. I was a
college educated, stay at home mom while my children were in their early years
of school. My husband was required to travel extensively throughout his career
and therefore I was the foundation for much of the day to day rearing of our
children.
Ensuring success in school for my children was a very big piece of my life for a number of years. In my experience, nothing was more important to my children’s success than the early development of solid reading skills. Although each of my children learned differently and at a different pace, they all required significant help/support to achieve early reading success. Now years later I am seeing my grandchildren and others like them, facing the same requirements and challenges that faced my children. I have spent hundreds of hours researching the best methods of teaching phonics and reading basics to young children. Recently I completed Orton-Gillingham training to bring multi-sensory techniques into my portfolio of reading-focused training skills. The teaching plans, curriculum and evaluation content utilized by Linda’s Reading Room reflect the efforts and research of not only myself but one of my daughters who has taught in Vancouver primary school for over a decade. |
